Frenford Youth Club has begun preparations for its move to new headquarters with a special ceremony to officially name their new building.

The building, being constructed at the former Port of London Authority Ground (PLA), was named the Jack Carter Pavilion at a special ceremony on Wednesday 14 July. The Mayor of Redbridge, Cllr Jim O’Shea unveiled a plaque recording the event and Reverend Kester, Chaplain to the Frenford Youth Club also conducted a blessing of the building.

The old Jack Carter Pavilion will be renamed the Oakfield Pavilion. The name swap is due to the club agreeing to always have their headquarters named after their founder.

The youth club provides counselling and educational support as well as up to twenty different sports for hundreds of teenagers. The new headquarters and sports facility will include an indoor gym, dance studio, function room, club room and sports hall for basketball, netball, badminton and indoor cricket. Outside there will be cricket nets, two multi-use games areas and football and cricket pitches.

The building is set to be completed this autumn and sustainable products have been used where possible throughout. Energy efficient heating and lighting systems have also been installed.

The club agreed a move of its Cricklefields and Oakfields premises to the former PLA ground to make way for the Isaac Newton Academy on part of the former Cricklefields site. The move also means the club can now bring all its activities onto one site.
