Almost 3,000 pirate DVDs have been seized after a raid on a shop in Green Lane, Ilford.
A recent test purchase by an officer from Trading Standards who entered the shop to buy DVDs, confirmed that counterfeit DVDs were being sold.
Over £6000 worth of DVDs seized
Redbridge Trading Standards joined forces with the BPI (the British Recorded Music Industry) and the police to swoop on the shop, which resulted in over £6000 worth of counterfeit Bollywood DVDs being seized.
Counterfeit goods undermine the trade of legitimate businesses and their sale will not be tolerated in Redbridge.
Although counterfeit goods may seem like a harmless bargain the truth is the production and sale of such items is often linked to organised crime. Counterfeit goods are often cheaper and of a much poorer quality than the genuine items. Consumers receive poor value for money and no guarantee of quality that buying a genuine branded product provides, there is also no avenue for complaint if the goods are faulty.
Trading Standards are investigating further and looking to take further action against the seller.
To report the manufacture or sale of counterfeit DVDs call Consumer Direct on 08454 040506.
