Great news! Redbridge’s free green garden waste collection service is back and better than ever.

Last year Redbridge Council launched a trial of the ‘Big Green Bag’ for garden waste in parts of the Borough. It was so successful the scheme is now being rolled out everywhere this month, with regular collection times during spring and summer months.

By the end of March all residents who didn't receive one last year, should have a hard wearing, spacious ‘Big Green Bag’ to present their garden waste in. The ‘Big Green Bag’ holds up to four times as much as a normal plastic sack, holds its shape and is robust enough to withstand tears from twigs and thorns.

The bags will make it quicker and easier for collection crews to empty as they save numerous trips to the vehicle, they don't need to be untied and they don't split open.

All the improvements offered by the ‘Big Green Bag’ should make life easier for you and our crews, resulting in a better service than ever before.

From beginning of April to end of October, there is no need to book for your garden waste collection, just make sure you place your ‘Big Green Bag’ at the boundary of your property nearest the street by 7am the day after your normal recycling and refuse collection. To make sure your bag gets back to you safely, mark your house number on it and provide a stone nearby for your empty back to be replaced under.

Every Sunday from May until the end of October between 9am to 3pm any additional garden waste can be taken to the following sites:

* Fullwell Cross Car Park, Craven Gardens, Barkingside
* Wanstead Leisure Centre. Redbridge Lane West, Wanstead
* Cricklefield Sports Ground car park, High Road, Ilford

Alternatively, you can take your green garden waste and a range of other recyclables to the Chigwell Road Reuse and Recycle Centre, Woodford Bridge, IG8 8PQ from 7.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 4pm at weekends and Bank Holidays.

Redwood Gardens, off of Arrowsmith Road? I'm sure they will, but if not just call the Contact Centre on 020 8554 5000 and tell them you haven't received a green bag and they'll make a special delivery!!!

why didn't you just phone up for a one off collection??? it's only the regular scheduled collection that starts at the very end of march.

Big Green Bags are extremely helpful and very welcome even if some thoughtless creatures think that these bags are disposable and can simply be dropped anywhere on any pavement, when full of gardening waste.
However, I must mention that I have heard so many people praising the facilities at the Chigwell Road Recycling Depot that I feel obliged to comment positively on this and relay the message. Either on your doorstep, or at Cravens Gardens every Sunday from May to October, or at the Chigwell depot. Spoiled for choice.
