Following an investigation into the sale of imported henna products, Redbridge Trading Standards were informed that a number of shops had bought imported Asian cosmetics, often from suitcases, without any receipts or invoices. After investigating a complaint relating to chemical burns caused by the use of Black Henna, Redbridge Trading Standards clarify that anyone selling cosmetic products are responsible for ensuring that the cosmetics are safe and comply with the requirements of the Cosmetic Products Safety Regulations 2008.
Cosmetics sold must have the following labelling:
* Name and address of the manufacturer if based in the EU, or the name and address of the person importing the cosmetics into the EU * Date of minimum durability * Precautions to be observed eg "keep out of eyes" * Batch number * List of ingredients
It is a criminal offence to supply cosmetics which are not correctly labelled and/or which are unsafe.
