Does anyone know what's happening in Melbourne Field? I see they are only this very morning starting to put in lots of toilets and are building some kind of structure. What is it? I can't find anything on the events page and I know the Redbridge Fair is meant to be two weeks from now? If something large is going to take place, the council should at least place it on the events page or keep local residents updated so we are aware.

Its the Eid celebration, we have had letters through our doors with details of what they are doing and it
appears to be well organised and responsibly run.

We didn't receive anything through the door and we are on the periphery of the area. Is it for three days again like it was last year? It would be nice to know because last year and the year before there were a few issues with regards to parking. Why isn't it included in the Redbridge events page?

The letter is from the Redbridge Community Forum of 179 Eastern Ave IG4 3AW I would suggest that you write and ask them your questions about receiving the information letter. The ceremony is from 8.30am until 12.30pm and they go on to say that detailed health and safety procedures are in place and there will be no alcohol or music. There will also be over a 100 stewards overseeing the event with onsite parking for over
500 cars. Although our street is full and a friend tells me that Auckland Rd is fairly full. I hope the above information is of assistance.

Thanks Julie. :) I don't understand why we didn't receive a letter - my neighbours didn't get one either nor my friend in Brisbane Road. Perhaps they only sent them to the lower end of Brisbane Road directly opposite the field. Anyway, it hasn't been too bad this time apart from increased traffic/parking (here in Auckland) and a nearby neighbour who was parked in but luckily not for very long.

My hubby was just saying that all those people left in about half an hour, I was watching all the different people and clothes (I'm a people watcher - bad habit) well arranged though - congrates to all involved.

Oh goodie...really looking forward to it. And then of course there is another festival next weekend for two days. I just love living next door to an open air events venue.

look on the bright side you get some very fresh air... in the olden days we used to get lots of wooden sticks land on our roof, from the fireworks displays - they were free and so many more friends when the
displays were on, but the fresh air must be the best in Ilford..

Having had a rather sweaty day re-felting my shed roof I am now showered, fed and enjoying a tranquil evening listening to the birds sing while drinking a pint of Thwaites Mild. The bats will be out shortly with their aerial stunts and displays. It's the mating season you know. Peace!

That reminds me, must see if I can book to go on one of the bat walks this year - I forget every year! As for the mozzies, my garden is full of them along with wasps. I have so many bites on my legs I look like I have some kind of skin disease. Fresh air? In Ilford? Where??

Can I remind everyone that our wonderful Redbridge Carnival takes place this weekend and to phone the
correct people in the possible event of a complaint. Old Ladies with trowels are apparently completly
banned from Melbourne Field.

I'd just like to say that the Carnival which took place in the park at the weekend was pretty okay actually. There was a bit of noise etc, but nothing at all like the noise from previous gatherings. The music was quite good in fact! Lots of different types of music, loved the drumming - thought that sounded wonderful - and it was a nice little event imo. Personally, I have no problem with an event like that which is properly managed and has something for everyone. So well done to those who organised it ThumpUp although, I do have to say that all these fairs can be a pain when you have a kid/kids who are constantly on at you because they want to go. Those rides are not cheap! Glare

I would concur with Brea it was not too loud, even the chap on the tannoy was bearable. However the
weather did stop many from attending, as the field seemed fairly empty most of the time.

Why Noise Matters
A Worldwide Perspective on the Problems, Policies and Solutions
By John Stewart with Arline Bronzaft, Francis McManus, Nigel Rodgers and Val Weedon

About the book
Is noise the most neglected green issue of our age? This book argues compellingly that it is, and tells you all you need to know about noise as a social, cultural, environmental and health issue.

Across the world, more people are disturbed by noise in their day-today lives than by any other pollutant on Earth. From the shanty towns of Mumbai to the smart boulevards of Paris, noise is a problem. It is damaging people’s health, costing billions, and threatening the world’s natural sound systems in the same way that climate change is altering its eco-systems.

Drawing on evidence from all over the world, this book showcases policies and strategies that have worked to decrease noise pollution, and offers lessons for policymakers and environmental health professionals, campaigners and any individual affected by noise.

Written by a renowned noise campaigner and experts in law and health, this book tells you all you need to know about noise as a social, cultural and environmental issue and how we can act to build a more peaceful world.

About the author
John Stewart has been campaigning on transport and environment issues for thirty years. He is a former Chair of Transport 2000 and of the road victim charity, RoadPeace. He currently chairs the UK Noise Association and is a Vice Chair of UECNA, the European body which represents airport campaign groups. He headed up the coalition which defeated plans for a third runway at Heathrow Airport. In 2008 he was voted the UK's most effective environmentalist by the Independent on Sunday. For the last three years from 2008 the Evening Standard nominated him as one of London's 1000 most influential people.

Now that the number of concerts in Hyde Park has been reduced due to, at least in part, complaints from nearby residents about the noise, parking, litter etc., will Redbridge Council have a similar re-think about the summer events in Valentine Park? The concerts and festivals in Melbourne Field are much closer to residents and the disruption caused has been a source of aggravation for some time. Or is the money paid to the Council for these events more important than the concerns of the people who actually live here?
