It would be nice if Redbridge managed to achieve some consistency in its policies Compare the Parking .Com- Simples

Hainault Forest Country Park - Minimum Charge £1.00

But Fairlop Waters- Minimum Charge £0.70 and until 1st October no charge at one end of Fairlop Waters

But For Fairlop Waters Golfers £0.40 all day

But Hainault Forest Golf Club and Redbridge Cycle Centre Parking is free

But Fulwell Cross Leisure Centre Minimum Charge £0.80

But Wanstead Leisure Centre is free

But Wanstead Library Minimum Charge is now £0.70

But at Woodford Green,Goodmayes and Keith Axom Centre parking is free.

But at Parks the minimum charge is now £0.70 – this will result in the law of diminishing returns,as residents either don’t go to Redbridge Parks or park in side streets. WHAT NEXT -Minimum Charge for pedestrians, who after all use the grass, plants and benches, cars only use a
piece of tarmac.

Residents pay local taxes for the upkeep of open spaces, then asked to pay again to park there.

Of course if the Senior Management Team had taken note of Mr Pickles suggestion to them to take a 10% pay cut instead of ignoring it, then none of these parking charges would have needed to have been implemented.

We pay £40,000 a year for the privilege of belonging to the Local Government Association For its Leaders to make the following fallacious statements
“The Local Government Association said it did not believe the decision to bring in Sunday charges was connected with financial cutbacks to local councils."Councils charge for parking to help balance supply and demand," said councillor Peter Box of the LGA's economy and transport board.”

Mr Box obviously lives in one, not of this world.

Parking policy is clearly to create as much confusion as possible. That way they maximise the opportunity for, and income from, penalty charge notices.

I've just been charged £55 for parking Chadwick Road (opposite the exchange) to pick up parcels that royal mail couldn't deliver.
People use this road constantly to do the same; wouldn't it make sense to have a 10 minute waiting period?
Even more annoying I was charged £55! £55 it's extortion.
Before anyone says anything, Yes I know it's my fault, I understand that but come on £55!!!

Now I have go to the small car park around the corner, that seems to smell permanently like urine, pay 1.20 to get my doors dinged and then go and pick up my parcel.

Oh this was all done by cctv by the way.

Well done Redbridge another nail in the coffin for you!

Oh back on topic, I think I had to pay something like £30 – 40p to park for 30 minutes in Barkingside high street.

I honestly do not have a problem with that.

£55 for a PCN it’s not on. Angry

I know it is not a consolation, but you have joined the many residents
of the borough who contribute to the Chief Executive's £245,000 per year
remuneration,Redbrige has become "Kleptocracy" in terms its Parking
Policy.

Redbridge's parking and penalty charges give a whole new meaning to "highway robbery". Dick Turpin rides again!

Joined this forum as I am looking for somewhere we can raise this issue as residents.

I really can't understand these new charges, especially in the parks. They make NO SENSE!

What are we paying for? Why? Where's it going? What is the reasoning behind it?
Because I really can't see any! Other than to empty them!

Pre October the Golf Club side of Fairlop was 10p for an hour - rising to higher amounts the longer you stayed (sorry cant remember how much)

It was free on the Park side & I presumed this was to stop commuters using the golf club car park as free parking for the station, and kind of agreed it was a good idea.

Now its 70p for the 1st hour, £1.10 for 2 rising to £3.50 for the day on both sides.
What for?

Its not as if there are even any facilities.

I used to go to Fairlop every day to walk the dog, and knew a few regulars up there, now its like a ghost town! The elder people I used to meet up there no longer go, They cant afford it!

70p a day = nearly a Fiver a week! (If I could afford it, it would be almost worth it to have the place to myself). I went to Seven kings park yesterday and it was the same (mind you, no shortage of parking spaces now)

OK I find the £1 at Hainult a little steep, but at least there is a loo and a cafe there.

If you want to stop people abusing the parking and make a little cash - make it sensible amounts - i.e. 20p for an hour 50p for 2, £1 for upto 4 etc., At least they are coins you are liable to have in your pocket

It is not so much the matter of the policy as that of the likely outcome. Consider the following progression.

1 FREE PARKING IN PARKS: Facilities popular, many people using them, good for both the enjoyment and health of residents.

2 NOMINAL (10p for an hour) CHARGE IN PARKS: Same outcome as 1 above.

3 EXCESSIVE CHARGES (like those now in operation): Parks devoid of human presence.

OUTCOME: Plenty of unused land for the council to sell at huge prices for building development. BONANZA FOR THE COUNCIL AND HEALTH AND WELLBEING GONE.

Better to ask for redelivery or take someone with you to jump out whilst you drive in circles... I hate the CCTV in Redbridge, as well as the CCTV car they have driving around. I got a ticket in the post waiting near Kenneth Moore Theater on a Sunday a while back whilst wife was 5 minutes in Argos. Didn't realise parking was totally restricted at all times. We go Romford for shopping now, they make it easier to spend money there - who's loss is it?

Re-direction for re-delivery is good but be careful there skhudy......if you take some one with you to jump out whilst you drive in circles,....because those CCTV operatives in the area will snap you the moment you stop to let your passenger out? Before you know it, you will receive a PCN through post with a picture of your vehicle (made to look like as if you are parked)? If you are going to do this, be sure to switch your hazards on with your foot on your breaks prior to pulling up on the side (during your wait & only switch off once you pull away), as this will prove that you were not parked and only letting your passenger/s out. The CCTV picture would show your hazards and/or break lights active accordingly (depending on the position of CCTV camera....in front or behind you for break lights). Technically speaking, you should not receive a PCN to let out or pick up passengers (unless you are on a red route, on or near a roundabout, at or near junctions or even main roads with continual flow of traffic), provided you are with your vehicle and that you do not park (i.e. even for 5mins from Redbridge traffic wardens' point of view, as they are in the business of issuing PCNs for that quick revenue turnaround?).

However, I agree with jatinder, that they should allow 10mins waiting slots, just outside the Royal mail side along Chadwick Road so working people can pick up their missed items on their way to work (particularly those commuters, who do not have a choice except to drive in to work). This will prevent congestion in the area (around the one way system, on adjacent road/s, which will prevent people from circling around) and it is better, as there will be less emissions in the air?

I came to Ilford to stay in a hotel, got lost, dropped the map and "satnav" on my phone, and had to undo my seatbelt. My husband, who was driving, pulled up while my seatbelt was undone and we got a parking fine. My car's lights were on and they don't stay on when the engine has been turned off. I have been told that that is still parking and that we, who had never been in Ilford before that night should have been aware of the parking restrictions.
Will we be coming to Ilford again? No. The hotel was great but I couldn't recommend going to Redbridge to anybody. Do they understand how angry people are? I hope they rot.

Einy...sorry to hear about your ordeal Sad. I had an alleged parking contravention ordeal myself (you can see this in another thread, under 'Parking Fine'). Personally, I think your ordeal was a bit harsh and ill considerate for you to receive a parking fine as a visitor to Redbridge, especially when your husband stopped safely to the road side; so that you can undo your safety belt to pick up your sat-nav / phone during that evening to reach your hotel destination? If your husband was in the driving seat with the engine running and vehicle lights on, that to me surely, suggests that you had no intention of parking but just stopping for a brief period of time at the point where you had pulled up (unless it was red route / double yellow lines....which means no stopping at any time). Surely, parking and stopping are two different things? Just matter of interest, how long ago was this & did you appeal against it or not?

Given your experience......what this says to us is that Redbridge would even issue parking fine even if a motorist had to pull up on the road side, because he /she may be experiencing sudden chest pain etc which they never had before and unable to proceed with their driving? Einy.....as you know Redbridge is very caring and considerate (NOT)....when it comes to parking issues? At least you went away with good impression of the hotel you stayed at, shame that you did not get a good impression of Rebridge borough as a whole? I have to say, I can't blame you.....afterall, who in their own minds would want to recommend a place of bad experience to others. I would not.Unsure

Not knowing much details about your ordeal i.e.location of your stopping, the road conditions, signage and restrictions etc, I thought the below web site links may be of some help regards general information, subject to whether you have appealed or not? Please note that the below web site links are in no particular order of preference and without personal endorsement.

Yeap.....Redbridge does like to drive people away, local people and visitors. Even we do not shop in Ilford, too much hassles with parking tickets and lack of parking spaces. Even the multi-storey parking within X-change shopping centre and one off Clements Road are pricey for parking rates. We tend to shop at Lakeside.....free parking, traffic warden free & no hassles.....it's just straight up the A13 if travelling from Dagenham way, only half hour drive from Ilford on a good day (about 12 miles away).
