Hi there,

As a pensioner I understand that I can go swimming in the borough for free. Does anyone know how I go about it and which ones I can use.
I am a resident and pay my council tax to Redbridge, I did go to the new center just by Morrisonns but was told I had to live in their borough to use their facillities for free (Barking and Dagenham).

In Redbridge there are two swimming pools at Fullwell Cross Leisure Centre, High Street Barkingside, IG6 2EA. There is a learner pool and main pool. Unfortunately we do not offer free swimming for the over 60s (there was a central government initiative which funded this for 18 months but this ceased on 1st August 2010) I believe you may be able to swim for free in LB Barking and Dagenham as they are funded to do so by the NHS. However in Redbridge if you are over 60 you can apply for a leisure card either at one of the leisure centres, libraries or the one stop shop and you can then swim at the concession price of £1.40 (Monday to Friday 9-5) adult prices are peak £3.50 off peak ( Monday to Friday) £2.30. For further information and timetables please visit the Vision website or contact Fullwell Cross LC on 0208 550 2366.

Wow......is that all? To cater for Redbridge borough of it's size, with all the population and the schools it has?

LB Barking & Dagenham can, then why can't Redbridge do the same?

I say, Redbridge should (for the over 60's & children 16 & under....with slotted times and days during the week), bring the concession price down to 50p for 1 hour pool time? They say swimming is the best form of excercise (not only for the elderly, but all ages). I strongly believe that Redbridge should reduce the concession rate (even with leisure card), not only for the over 60's & children as mentioned above but also go further, for those ages who have medical condition where their doctors have said that swimming would help their health, with a letter from doctor for their patient to qualify for concession rates or for free. Surely, the over 60's and people with medical condition would have significant impact on our NHS / local PCT (Primary Care Trust), if they swam on a regular basis and kept healthy, on a affordable / concession rate or even for free in the long run? I know some schools (some children) via their school term time (e.g only for one term, once a week) have an hour or so swimming lessons for free.......but this too is not enough! Getting our children to excercise whilst they are young is a good thing in the long run, as they will be much healthier in years ahead of them (meaning less impact on NHS in the long run)!

Since when has there been TWO swimming pools at Fullwell Cross Leisure Centre?

We have ONE pool which is roped off to provide two separate AREAs in the SAME pool!

Your "Vision" of the future in "Redbridge Lies" awaits ... "number of Libraries doubled at zero cost to taxpayer ..."

We now have TWO libraries at Fx, one for Adults and one for Children.
