I have new people living in the flat below me. They are tenants of the owner of the flat. I was awake until 5am this morning because of the noise from them and this morning one of them attempted to stop me getting out of the front door. The police have logged the incident and advised me to call the local station if anything should happen tonight.

Can anyone advise me what I should do? I can't find any info on this site about how to approach the landlord, ie whether I can do that or whether it has to be done by the council or a solicitor. I'm trying to download the anti-social behaviour form from this site but there seems to be a problem.

Advice would be most welcome. Many thanks

Try the LB of Redbridge ASBO Team, which works to tackle anti social behaviour in the borough. Anti-social behaviour doesn’t just make life unpleasant, it holds back the regeneration of disadvantaged areas and creates an environment where more serious crime can take place. The team covers - noise nuisance, rowdy behaviour, vandalism and any other form of anti social behaviour. The teams aim to intervene as soon as possible to; protect victims, witnesses and the community; enable the perpetrator to recognise the consequences of their behaviour and encourage the perpetrator to change their behaviour.

Tenants in council or privatley rented accomodation should all be made to sign a contact not to effect the quiet enjoyment of neighbours and their properties and to keep the property they rent in a fit and tidy conditon, if they don't then the tenants on benefit should be put out on the street to fend for themselves rather than the tax payer subsidising their unsocial habits. Something for nothing days are over. Respect your neighbours and yourself

Council tenants do, and are policed more rigedgly than private tenants. But, from my experience private home owners are just as bad. It's nothing to do with the status of the home, it's the type of individual and the lack of basic manners or respect.

You can report noise nuisance to our Public Protection Team by completing an online form which can be found on this page - http://www.redbridge.gov.uk/cms/8.aspx

I've just added my own report through that online form. It's gone past 1AM and I'm awake because of their shouting from excessive drinking! And to be honest, most of the guests seem to be driving away ..over the legal limit, I wonder?

Brilliant forum by the way. Small point: a guide to working out which houses fall into which ward would be nice (unless i missed something lol).

With respect, keeping logs is necessary in case things get to court etc but for the individual having to tolerate sleepless nights and loud music it is no help at all! Why should you have to log, say, 10 months of unpleasantness before anything can be done.

I endured loud rock music and regae from a neighbour for some time many years ago. I bought the property and had lived there for about four years with no problems until this couple moved in and put 100w speakers in three of their rooms! And it was a one-bedroomed flat. Initially, I joked with them and tried to keep things light-hearted but they would agree and just carry on as normal. Then I had a baby and tried to reason with them again. They agreed, fussed over the baby and that very night came home at 2.30 a.m. and turned the music on in every room! I lost it then. I had tried many times to be reasonable. I was polite and completely inoffensive. This tactic did not work. From then on every time they turned their music on they could count on me banging on the door, causing an argument and in some instances just switching off their electicity at the mains! I had gone beyond caring. All I knew was that if they were going to make my life unpleasant then I was going to do the same to them.

It didn't solve the problem entirely as they still made noise but it certainly made me feel a lot better. And the best revenge came when I had enough of a deposit to move somewhere else. I didn't sell my first flat but rented it out - I was looking to rent to a drug-dealing reggae lover with seven Alsation dogs but I couldn't find any!!! Anyway, my problem was solved because I was not there any more and the rage against these neighbours went away.

However, the second lot of tenants who rented the property turned out to be my avenging nemesis - he was a drummer in a rock band and practised on his drum kit and electric guitar (bass!). He kept strange hours so a 4.00 a.m. jamming session was not unusual!! Ah, revenge was sweet! At one of the owner meetings for the maintenance of the property these neighbours started being very pleasant to me and dropped into the conversation about the noise from my tenant. The cheek of it! I just smiled sweetly and agreed totally that this was extremely selfish behaviour. Totally inconsiderate etc etc. But I did not offer to do anything about it. They got the message. Now, the drummer has been replaced with different tenants and the horrible neighbours have moved somewhere too so the flats in that property are now peaceful at last!

I think you are just going to have to join them I'm afraid. You can't beat them. Just make sure you make your noise when you know they want some quiet ... a bit of basketball-bouncing practice over their bedrooms at 6.00 a.m. each morning might help to destress you, don't you think?!

Hello all,

This is my first post on the Redbridge forum and i'm sad to say noisy neighbours will be the topic i'll kick off with. I have read the other posts relating to this topic and I agree with t alot of the comments made.

I had one neighbour who played loud music from 8pm to 5.30am, he njust didn't care who he was offending or causing nuisance to. I rang the Anti-Social team but they couldn't do anything about it as they only had one person dealing with cases who was on another call at the time. So i was kept awake the whole night. I tried knocking on the door but they wouldn't answer.

Ultimately, its intimidating and extremely stressful when someone interrupts ones peace, this then further increases when you have to approach the offending party.

Another issue is that alot of offending individuals are the ones that live in one/two bedroom conversions. This is one of the biggest mistakes Redbridge Council has made and that is allowing houses to be converted into flats. It has created more congestion and more importantly it makes Redbridge look really ugly.
