Residents in my Neighbourhood Watch Area have FOUR major concerns

1. Through Traffic - i.e. "rat runs" - but also noise nuisance at night from racing and/or 'boom boxes'

2. Drinking Alcohol in Public and attendant Anti-Social Behaviour - such as peeing in gardens and accosting schoolgirls

3. Leaflet Drops and Cold Callers - widely believed to be a prelude to burglaries

4. Rear Access to Properties - whose responsiblity is it to patrol yards, alleys, fields, cemeteries, etc

I hope that Councillors read this.

I don't know where your patch is, but I have an allotment on Fulwell Avenue and we regularly get visitors over the fences, often coming over the wooden fence along the private road behind the houses in Greystone Gardens. While we have been able to work with the council on repairing the holes in the fence along the pavement promptly, we do not have the funds to install a high fence along here, so rely on good neighbours to keep 'em' peeled.

Before you ask how we get the fence fixed quickly, they gave us a stock of palings and we do it ourselves. It's much cheaper for the council that way and more efficient for us. Rather than just complain, we looked for a solution to suit both sides. It works much better that way.

.

1. see if the street plan/ traffic flow can be altered to avoid through traffic(one way streets no entries etc) to discourage non local traffic.

4. contact the local s.n.t./parks police who may be able to help(they cycle down our private service road often and irregularly) although if the adjoining property is privately owned YOU need to ensure you have the correct amount of security.

A significant problem with one-way streets is that traffic speeds tend to increase - drivers safe in the knowledge that they can chase along on the crown of the road and nothing will come at them from the opposite direction.
