You choose and the council will do what they want.

I have had a look at 'you choose' and selected a couple of options, one was to spend some money on a school, and the other was to 'Increase enforcement income'

The details from the site state:
"The Council undertakes parking enforcement throughout its area, currently generating a gross income of over £3 million. However, some areas of possible enforcement are not currently pursued and new powers to undertake enforcement of moving traffic offences are only just becoming available.

In adopting a more proactive approach to enforcement and applying its new powers the Council could increase its income in this area, allowing reinvestment to meet the significant highways maintenance needs outlined elsewhere in the Conversation."

This was then submitted to the site and the response I get is:

Based on your options we've collated a few statements that we feel best sum you up.

* You are prepared to consider the introduction of a borough-wide resident parking scheme to fund your investment priorities.
* The quality of education and the condition of our schools are important to you

THAT IS NOT WHAT I HAVE SAID.

The council have decided that because I want them to enforce existing parking I want more parking schemes ???

I Give up.

This highlights one of the dangers of attempting to use a computer to summarise people's views - an issue that I raised when the suggestion the Conversation should do this was first raised. You can be reassured, however, that it's the actual options you've selected that forms your response to the Conversation - the 'summary' the program feeds back to you is only for your benefit (or otherwise), and is perhaps best ignored!

It's a real shame that the conversation results are so heavily skewed in apparent favour of selling allotments. I suppose a majority of people do not realise how valuable allotments are for everyone, not just the relative few who maintain them. A little like asking children in a sweet shop if they'd rather have a jar of sweets or a banana, it's quite obvius which choice will be exercised before you ask the question, but it doesn't maen they actually UNDERSTOOD the ramifications of their choice I know many people are ambivalent about the future of our diminishing green spaces, but in this case common sense must overrule the mob mentality as it is not proper democracy when a majority make a bad choice due to lack of information.
The same goes, but to a lesser extent for car parks, some naive souls even believe that having less car parks will reduce traffic, but people will still use their cars and cause chaos by parking inappropriately instead, the effect of less parking spaces would be minimal and a long time in coming if there were any significant downward trend at all.

Land sales are a poor way of generating revenue, except as an emergency measure, raising taxes is far better and sustainable, if electorially unpopular, but one must take the bull by the horns to make real progress, I urge the council to be brave.
