It was really interesting to see the re-opening of a post office in the Buckhurst Hill area under the Essex County Council recently, which begs the question why nothing has been considered by Redbridge Council along these lines?

Since the closing of our local Post Office (213 High Road, South Woodford), not only have the residents suffered greatly but nearly all the businesses along that particular parade of shops have been affected, including myself (Mr Imran Jan - Churchfield Pharmacy).

We gathered over 3000 signatures to stop this post office from being shut down. With heinsight it would seem the consultation exercise was just an exercise in vain, as it seems the decision had already been taken against the will of the locals and businesses.

I am sure if Redbridge Council wishes they can easily revive this particular post office, in accordance with the wishes and needs of the local people.

I heard today that there IS a second petition doing the rounds now to this effect. Will try to pin down the details ASAP so that it becomes public. It is mind boggling and utterly dispiriting that this local community resource was allowed to close; particuarly now when many new homes are bursting into the area.

Councillors have asked for this to be investigated and a Council officer has got the job of looking at the feasibility of Council's helping to keep Post Offices open. I think we are all interested to know what Essex are doing in Buckhurst Hill and it would be great if something similar could be done in Redbridge.

It is by no means straightforward, however, and I don't think Councils can subsidise the Post Office side of such a facility. It may, however, be able to come up with other solutions such as shared usage which may reduce the cost of running a premises.

If our beloved Government in Westminster is unable to stop The Post Office from shutting Post Offices down then how the heck can A Local Council achieve success in stopping Post Offices from shutting, If Essex County Council have managed to do this then our Beloved Masters in Westminster had better take note or else, and Redbridge please make them return the Ilford Post Office to Clements Road I’m any one who works in WHSmiths will second this.

I really hope that something is done soon. The impact on the Church End community has been huge. The queue at South Woodford Post Office has been worse!

The BBC were carrying a report from Postwatch to say that people in London had the longest waits in Post Offices of anywhere in the country. One of the main points we made at the time of the "consultation" on the closures was that queues are already bad in South Woodford's post office and the closure of the High Road post office would make this even worse.

Convenience of customers does not seem to get much priority with the Post Office with regard to its counter service. Bearing in mind that these closures are supposed to be essential so that the Post Office can be run as a commercial operation it seems to be odd that making life much more difficult for their customers rates so low in their priorities.
