Should I choose all my options for Primary School? - Help

Hi
I'm applying for the first time to send my daughter to school near here in Gants Hill. I've got a choice of schools to send here to but I really only want her to go to the one closest to me in which she's already enrolled with in the nursery. Should I only put that school down as my choice and leave my other two choices blank? Do you think that is wise?
Any help/experience would be appreciated.
Thanks Dan

Hi Dan
I would advise that you fill all three in.
Competition for school places is very strong in Redbridge and most schools have more applicants than spaces available. Children with a brother or sister already in the main school (not nursery) will get a priority and then everyone else based only on the distance between the home and school (by shortest walking distance).
You have no priorities because your child attends the nursery.
All of your school choices are looked at sepreately from each other and adding a second or third choice will have no effect on your chances of getting the first choice school.
At the end of the day, if you can't be offered your first choice school, and have not added a second or third for consideration you will only be given a list of alternative schools that still have vacancies after all the allocations have been made - these may all be a long way from where you live.
Adding a second and third choice at least gives you the chance of being considered for other local schools if the one you want has too many applicants and you dont get a place, rather than just being given a list of spaces that are left after all applications have been considered - as you have no guarantee of where these schools are.
I knew that temping in an admissions office last year would come in handy :P
