The mini-roundabout in Longwood Gardens at the junction of Greenleafe Drive is becoming dangerous (miracle no fatal accident yet). Cars in Longwood Gardens overtake vehicles waiting to turn into Greenleafe and fail to give way to vehicles that have right of way (those turning right). Need speed restrictions / cameras in part of Longwood where cemeteries are.

I would say take out the mini-roundabout and change it back to a T junction

I believe that people have complained about the Clayhall Avenue / Woodford Avenue junction in the past.

I usually avoid that junction if at all possible but I have used it recently when running errands for my Dad.

On each occasion recently that I have been down that end of Clayhall Avenue (about once a week on average) I have seen a delivery truck (inc. Tesco / Sainsbury Home Delivery vans) using the traffic island (which is supposed to be for emergency vehicles) to bypass the width restrictions (to the extreme danger and inconvenience of cars legitimately using the correct lane through the width restriction).

Is anyone 'on the case' with regard to this and who should we be telling about these incidents?

Isn't that a problem all along Longwood and not just at this junction. I always slow at the roundabouts, much to the consternation of other drivers who seem to think it's ok to whizz along without pause and don't seem to have noticed them.... and no I'm not an older careful driver, just reasonably careful.

A little further along by the shops, what doesn't help is that there are usually cars parked both sides of the road, as well as in the shop parade, drastically reducing this part of the road and obliterating the view coming out of Glenthorne.

Vehicles that illegally use the emergency access island in Clayhall Avenue are also a danger to pedestrians and cyclists who use that island to cross the road. Emergency vehicles have sirens and flashing lights to warn of their presence.

What I do is to take a description of the vehicle, including the company if it is a liveried vehicle, its registration number, time and date, and pass the details onto the local Safer Neighbourhood Team.

I am waiting for an occurrence of two large vehicles to attempt that manoeuvre in opposite directions at the same time. In the rush hour!

There was a proposal some time ago at Area Committee 4 to put a keyed gate across the emergency access section but I believe that plan has now been abandoned.

Illegal U-turns into the “keep clear” section are also a problem as are legal U-turns, or more likely 3-point turns, just before the width restriction. Here is evidence of the result.

I must follow this up with Roger Evans.

Why are the width restrictors there?

Would removal stop oversize vehicles reversing and improve traffic flow?

I remember from a few years ago when the last bus would go down Clayhall and disappear - we eventually worked out that it was getting out diagonally across the width restriction and making us walk home

Thanks to Area THREE Committee and their Discretionary Budget, we now have "Check your speed" signs in Longwood Gardens.

Thanks to everyone concerned in achieving this.

So far, the signs seem to having the desired effect.

Area FOUR actually - otherwise Area THREE'S funds are being misappropriated!

The section of Longwood Gardens to the North of Rushden Gardens on the West side and North of Greenleafe Gardens on the East side is part of Fullwell Ward and thus in Area THREE.

I am sure any dispute concerning boundaries between Wards and Areas can be resolved by an amicable discussion between the Chairs of the respective Areas concerned.
