How do we know this is a sincere statement?

It's been impossible to trust anything else that has been posted in the newsletter over the last 18 months.

I will believe it when it's reopened for parish use; it’s an absolute disgrace that it's been left to rot for 18 months.

Totally agree BBW, there has been nothing but lies and stalling tactics for the last 18 months and that is unlikely to change. The biggest annoyance is that quite a substantial time ago, the offer was made to return the hall to parish use at *no cost* to the Parish. This would have meant all of the physical problems listed as to why the building had to be shut, being repaired, and see the hall return to being a hub for fundraising events for the Parish and local community. Yet this is conveniently forgotton each time further notes are posted in the Newsletter that attempt to explain why (in these harsh economic times) a community hall like this remains shut and going to rack and ruin.

The situation is getting really bad within the parish; I overheard someone saying that as the parish no longer has a proper community they were considering moving!

What a sorry state of affairs.

Why has no one within the Catholic Church done anything?

What will it take before the church listens to the parishioners?

The church is not to blame for no community, it is the people within the community.

I beg to differ - It was the church that callously removed the use of the parish hall and hence their meeting place was lost and the community suffered!

Apparently there is a Parish Council meeting tonight where the Parish Hall will be discussed. It was in the Newsletter yesterday and, for once, it didn't say that observers were not permitted. It did say that anybody could give any questions to Parish Council members to ask at the meeting. Anybody looking to email a member can get the email addresses by emailing social.club@hotmail.co.uk where they would be happy to help - or so I'm told

I'm not surprised by your comments; the parish has been going down hill for about 7 years.

It would be kinder to take it to Switzerland and put us all out of our misery quickly!

Much as the peace and quiet of a swiss clinic might appeal I'm with Dylan Thomas and say "Do not go gentle into that good night" - I'm in this fight for the long haul. Death or Victory!

How about a special prize? A statement from LBR to say that they donated the land for use as a Catholic Community Centre and that they insist that it be used for that and not chained up because of one man's wishes?

This appeared in the parish newsletter this week:

PARISH BUILDINGS MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE – The Parish Council and I have decided to form a sub-committee of the Council responsible for the maintenance of parish buildings. Consequently would any one who thinks they would be able to assist in this please put their name on the list at the back of the church.

This raises a number of questions -

Is it a sign that the parish priest is willing to negotiate?
Is it fair to assume that the Parish Hall is one of these buildings?
One question that needs answering is who was doing the job before?
If it was the parish council can we assume that they are admitting their failure as the hall has been closed for over 18 months?
Has the priest finally realised that he not only needs the help of the parishioners to run a large parish but it’s time he listened to the parishioners as after all he is just a steward who is passing through?
Will this sub committee be just another unelected “Quango” just like the parish council?
Is this just another publicity stunt?
Is the new committee being put in place to take the blame for the closure of the hall?

The notice opens a can of worms and requires many answers – perhaps they will be in next week’s newsletter.

Now that the Pope has announced his visit to England perhaps he may have time to help solve the problems at St Augustine's!

After all it was his predecessor that ordained the priest!

And what about the good work that the priest has done?
