I have been attending Mass at St Peters & Pauls Ilford for a couple of years now, in the last few months the congregation has dramatically increased. Is it because the word of God is gets louder in times of hardship or are there other factors to consider?

One major factor to include is migration from other parishes - If you have a parish that is suffering local difficulties the parishioners will vote with their feet.

My mum has started to go to Peter and Paul's despite having a church 10 mins away in Manor Park, she just likes it better, so ...it's doing something right.

St Peter's & Pauls has a great Priest - he listens to the people, encourages community activities and sets a fine example to the parishioners.

With this combination it is guaranteed that the congregation will increase.

It's just a hunch but may be the following threads could have something to do with the increased attendance?

Are LBR charging their exorbitant parking fees in the High Road on Sundays now?

Funny the way that the yellow line on the High Road opposite the church, that could cost you a fine and a licence endorsement, mysteriously disappeared when our money-grabbing council took over parking regulation!

St Peter & Paul's car park should and is only meant to be for Parishoners not all and sundry, it's a real pain whilst attending Church and some idiot who does not attend Church parks there.
I wish the Bishop would do something about this!

I think HolyJoe has a point.

Last Sunday I went to St Peter's and Paul's instead of my usual place of worship - what a difference.

I came out spiritually refreshed and will certainly be returning - it was a revelation, such a welcoming community spreading love, peace and the word of Christ.

The extra travelling will be worth it.

I think that praise should be given where praise is due - Fr Tom should be commended for the way in which he runs his parish.

Perhaps we should introduce a scheme similar to OFSTED to inspect our churches.

It could be called "RAT" - Religious Aptitude Testers

You have to give praise to both priests Fr Tom Lavin and Fr Patrick Okoye - if only all priests were as good.

The direction of a priest determines the satisfaction of its parishioners - it the case of Saint Peter & Paul's they seem to have got it just right.

There is absolutely everything you need for a Parish to flourish and shine like a beacon for the rest of society, a great mixture of services, religious groups and social activities and what was most pleasing to see was plenty of young people in attendance - the future of the parish is in safe hands.

I wish my parish was half as good.

Carry on the good work.

That would be an ecumenical matter.

Your speaking as if a parish is some sort of club?

We need to be careful in these times of deception. The mystery of iniquity was already at work when the apostles walked the earth. Read about Peter Magnus. I believe there may be some sorcerery going on in the church today. Charismatic churches with large populations are where the best sorcerers will be sent.
