As I was passing last evening the Mumbai Lounge on Romford Road, opposite the Island/Palais had a notice of a proposal to change their license, now I'm not a short person 5'10 in my socks, but I could barely read the notice, it was posted so high on the wall. Are there guidelines for where a notice should be placed. I would have thought that a position within reading range of most adults would be sensible if not legally neccessary. Does anyone know ?

I would also be very interested to see a definitive answer to this.
"The Joker" in Cameron Road has, what I assume* to be, a notice of planning application in a window so high above ground level (about 8 - 9 feet) that it is impossible to read. (In fact it is only really noticeable from the other side of the road!)
* If I could read it, I wouldn't have to make this assumption.
I have also seen what look remarkably like planning application notifications on front doors and windows of houses which are a very long distance from the public footway. Would it be an act of trespass to cross the property line to read them? (And what would be the situation if, having done so it turned out to be something entirely different which just happened to be the right colour, etc....?)

I have, on occasion walked right up to the window of a house displaying a planning application notice, to read said article only to have the front room inhabitants look at me in amazment. They did not remonstrate however, just smiled when they realised what I was doing. I guess most people who post the notices don't really expect them to be read. I take an interest after reading "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" and thinking that if only someone had read the notice, then Earth could have been saved. Please PM me for an explanation if you haven't read the books, or better, just read them :-)
Maybe you could knock and ask the Joker if you could borrow a ladder, see what they reply.

I thought that planning application posters were for 'information only' anyway since few if any, are allowed to object. What is also a really interesting development is that when you apply for a certificate of lawful development, not only you don't have to stick a poster in your window but you don't even have to tell your neighbours even if what you are doing is going to impact severely on them! No plans are available for viewing at the library either. Good news for developers,... annesevant (I want a little smiley for bemused!)

Recent changes in the financial climate seem to have resulted in the addition of a " TO LET" sign on the front of the upper floor. Unfortunately, I wasn't around when this appeared so I wasn't in a position to request the use of the ladder ...

Sorry - I should have looked here before starting a new thread in Area 4 http://www.redbridge.gov...g=posts&m=7615#7615
we have the same situation at St Augustines Parish Hall where they have put up a request for change [we think] notice but it is so far from the street that we can't tell - it could be offering it as a sacrifice to Baal or something. Nobody seems willing to go on the record as to whether this invalidates the application. Surely somebody knows...

Sacrifices to Baal are outlawed under section 666.365(s) of the council's code, sacrifices these days may only be made to Mammon I understand

Drove past the Joker at the weekend and agree that that notice can't be read by any reasonable person either. Do we have any word yet from the planning department to see if this makes the notices illeagal? I saw on another notice that it has to be displayed and if it is defaced or removed three times then notice is deemed to have been served but this 'out or reach' rubbish surely can't be covered by this?
