Hi members, this is my first post so apologies for any wrong doings :d

I have lived in Redbridge for some 9 months now after moving from manor park.

Over the last few months there have been a series of muggings along Balfour road, most recent being outside my house!!

Does anyone know what the council are doing to combat crime? i know they are holding regular meetings and even came knocking on doors to ask about comments and concerns but its actually gone worse since.

Street lighting is very poor and the B&B's down the road near heron mews do not help either, there is always a sense of fear when walking past as crowds of impolite individuals are there all day smoking drugs and drinking (where most muggings take place)

I had to call the noise pollution team numerous times regarding the noise from the penthouse nightclub. Apparently no one else has ever raised an issue despite the noise levels being really loud especially on weekends, can no one on Thorold road or Myrtle road hear what i am hearing?

Thanks for reading.

If I was you I'd definitly call my SNT (Safer neighbourhood team) and make sure they know of your concerns. They are probably already aware of the problem and may need someone to mention their fears so that they can justify some action. I walk down that way quite often and the poeple hanging around sure can be scary, specially when they hide in all the nooks and crannies of the exchange. I have seen people using needles in the doorways down there and they get very agitated when you surprize them. The whol;e area really needs a clean up. Best of luck with your efforts.

Thanks for bringing this to the forum's attention. As someone who was jumped myself along this street a couple of months ago, I can vouch for the truth of it. I of course made the police aware of it and they said they would pay more attention along this stretch of road (between the taxi rank for about 200m I'd say) but it does need a great deal of extra attention if this important link into the town centre is to be made more attractive to walk at night.

The large number of B&B's near the taxi rank don't help either, there are tons of drug dealings going on and walking past the taxi rank smells like a public toilet!

i am a taxpayer and the thought of contributing to putting people up in these hostels who end up causing nuisance to me and my family really annoys me.

They linger around all day, don't do nothing and make other peoples lives a living hell!

Hi Daniel, sorry to hear you have been a victim of such behavior,

did you report it to the neighborhood watch or safer neighborhoods team?

I know it is a daunting process but if people speak up about their concerns the councils etc will have no choice but to do something about it. as mentioned by me, the noise from the penthouse club has NEVER been reported by anyone, and when i speak to locals they share the same views as me on the topic?

zubairseth,

if you are talking about the "room at the top" the license has the following requirement:

"When live or recorded music is played all reasonable steps are to be taken to avoid disturbance;"

if they are not doing this then the council can require noise limiters and other measures be installed. also all music/ dancing should be indoors with all doors windows CLOSED to prevent noise leakage.

exactly what do you suggest they do? it bugs me when people happily criticise while not coming up with any realistic alternatives.

many years ago , i was the victim of a burglary. my neighbours were both home but could not/did not stop the burglary. for all i know they could have been involved. i don't think lbr could have stopped this. the law is weak, the penalties are derisable and our government and civil liberties types are to blame. known criminals need to be taken off the streets not given fines or community service.

As well as i agree with the above comment, we are not the politicians or have not stepped up to be councillors etc, this is something the elected persons have chosen to do and they should be finding solutions to problems, they understand the situation and problems better than us and the law has too many loopholes to let offenders walk free!

as for my opinion of what should be done, i agree, the laws should be more strict on criminals, they say 'first' time burglars should be given another chance?? how do they know if it is the first time they have been caught after committing burglary for 30 years? and what about the 'chance' normal honest citizens deserve?

"your life has been ruined, but we think the burglar should be given another chance, what say? thank you sir"

I think the laws in this country stink and people i have spoken to who have been in prison say they cant wait to go back in as its better in there than out here!!

The law is weak, community service for offenders is better than sleeping all day (as that's all they do in normal life) and nothing deters criminals etc from doing what they want to do anymore.... WAKE UP and DO SOMETHING!!

I am going to have a meeting with the safer neighborhoods team hopefully this Saturday (tbc)

They seem to be interested in my views and concerns which i will raise with my neighbor who has lived in the area for 21 years,

I hope this will bring current issues to light with the team and encourage others to 'do something about it' like i was told a couple of times.

If we don't raise concerns and just moan about it then nothing will be done about it either

So.... lets see how it goes

Well done to zubairseth for doing something positive and liaising with the safer neighbourhood team. In Fullwell ward, our safer neighbourhood team is very proactive and keeps a high profile. We know they are there and we want them to be there.
We also liaise with our area councillors who are always as helpful as poss.
Interestingly, although more powerful than us, they still have to be pushy to get results!

Thank you annesevant,

Me and my neighbor have had enough of being concerned for safety, so this will hopefully be the first step to try and make a difference, im not claiming to save the world but if everyone who has problems tried to do something about it, maybe things would be different.

Well done to whoever got the petition together. Front page of the Ilford Recorder. Can't believe there are people saying they didn't know about it. Lack of communication is very concerning.
